About this event in the Jura in Darbonnay
The nose as the starting point for tasting
In Darbonnay, ‘From the Bulle to the Wine Cellar: An Olfactory Journey through Jura Wines’ brings together two worlds: perfumery and oenology. Offered as part of Vignobles en scène, this wine tourism workshop puts the sense of smell first, providing a different approach to tasting wines from the Jura vineyards.
This sensory experience, described as a first of its kind, lasts 1 hour 30 minutes. The guided journey is split between the Bulle à Parfums and the wine cellar at Domaine Pêcheur. Its principle is to prepare the nose before moving on to the glass, then identify in the wines the aromas discovered during the first stage.
A journey in two complementary stages
- Identifying aromas at the Bulle à Parfums
The first part takes place at the Bulle à Parfums, in a space dedicated to awakening the senses. Here you learn to isolate and identify the signature aromas that contribute to the distinctive character of Jura wines.
The notes explored include fresh walnut, spices such as curry, apple and mineral nuances of flint. This olfactory exploration has a specific aim: to train the nose and build scent memories before the tasting. The aromas are therefore first explored in their own right before being sought out in the wines.
- Rediscovering the aromas at Domaine Pêcheur
A short walk from the Bulle à Parfums, the second stage takes you to the wine cellar at Domaine Pêcheur. Here, glass in hand, you taste a selection of the winemaker’s cuvées.
The challenge is to recognise the molecules and families of aromas explored just beforehand. Connecting the olfactory exploration with the tasting allows you to explore the relationship between nose and palate, at the heart of the experience.
An introduction for different levels
The workshop is designed as a fun, educational journey. It is accessible to beginners and passionate enthusiasts alike, with an approach intended to demystify tasting and transform the way you taste.
The grape varieties and aromatic richness of the local cuvées also shed light on the Jura terroir. The discovery is therefore not limited to naming aromas: it connects them to the wines tasted and their distinctive character.
The small-group format is described as intimate and friendly, encouraging conversation and interaction throughout the journey.
