About this event in the Jura in Poligny
A teenage girl facing society’s demands
With ‘Queen Kong’, Compagnie Tintinabule brings the voice of an angry young girl to the stage. At the Chapelle de la Congrégation in Poligny, this teenager speaks frankly about sex, discovering her body and the ways of taking pleasure in it. She also describes the scrutiny her body is subjected to, the demands made of it and the control exerted over it because it is female.
Harassed on social media by the group she belongs to, she is judged too free, too far removed from the norms society imposes on girls. She chooses to blow those conventions apart and follow what beats within her, whatever the price.
Two struggles that echo one another
Another struggle mirrors this personal fight: in the hills above her little town, a ‘zone to defend’ is occupied. This occupation echoes the teenager’s journey.
‘Queen Kong’ speaks to those who cannot fit into the ‘suit’ imposed by society, as well as those who would like to free themselves from its demands. The show also challenges people who do not see or understand that the old world is over, and puts forward the idea that this is a good thing.
This production invites us to question, discuss, argue and deconstruct. It also speaks to those who need a helping hand to begin these exchanges, with the aim of bringing more respect, joy, listening and freedom to encounters with others.
An adaptation of Hélène Vignal’s novel
First produced in January 2024, the show is adapted from Hélène Vignal’s novel ‘Queen Kong’. Géraldine Pochon is responsible for the adaptation, concept and direction.
Marion Cadeau and Michaël Santos perform. Michaël Santos also creates the music. Manue Petit is responsible for lighting design and technical management; Anne Mignot de Bréchard is the production manager.
