An encounter with an animal as a starting point
The Centre culturel du Grandvaux in Saint-Laurent-en-Grandvaux hosts Lise Vurpillot’s painting exhibition Wildlife, from 5 December to 27 January 2027. Admission is free. The exhibition opening will take place on Saturday 5 December 2026, with the artist present.
Painting the emotion of a gaze and revealing the magic of an encounter: this approach lies at the heart of Lise Vurpillot’s work. A contemporary painter, she explores the profound bond between humans and animals. Her vibrant portraits do not seek to depict a species, but to give form to a unique moment when two worlds cross paths, recognise one another and touch without a word.
From the field to the studio
Each canvas begins with a real face-to-face encounter. In the silence of forests or the light of vast plains, Lise Vurpillot watches, observes and waits. She seeks that fragile moment when an animal meets her gaze and everything seems to stand still. The work has its roots in this experience, seen as a silent, profound dialogue between two forms of life.
In the studio, the painter breathes new life into the encounter. Her practice moves between precise naturalism and colourful expressionism. Fidelity to the animal combines with the freedom to convey the emotion she felt. Beyond simple realism, her canvases express wonder, the tension of presence and the complex beauty of living things.
