Antoine Devaux presents a former farm converted into a home, the first stop on a tour of three renovation projects in the Jura.
About this event in the Jura in Lac-des-Rouges-Truites
A home that reveals traces of its farming past
In Lac-des-Rouges-Truites, a former farm converted into a home is the first stop on a tour devoted to three remarkable renovation projects in the Jura. This project by architect Antoine Devaux is opening its doors to the public especially for the National Architecture Days, on the theme ‘Renovating: Building the Future’.
The CAUE du Jura invites you to discover these transformations with the architects and designers behind them. Their commentary will offer a behind-the-scenes insight, revisit the choices specific to each project and provide an opportunity to talk directly with their creators.
From farming to contemporary uses
At this first project, the animals left the farm long ago. Yet the barn still bears the marks of what was once intensive farming activity: its roof structure, hay storage system and spatial layout testify to a way of life that has now disappeared.
Its conversion into a home is not based on erasing these traces. On the contrary, the project reveals them and builds on them to accommodate new uses while preserving the building’s identity. The visit will offer a practical exploration of the connections between the memory of a place, the qualities of the existing building and contemporary uses.
Antoine Devaux will present this project himself. He will share his approach and explain the architectural choices and challenges involved in converting this former farm into a home.
A tour followed by a round-table discussion
After this first stop, the tour will continue with visits to two other renovation projects in the Jura. At the end of the tour, the architects will come together for a round-table discussion chaired by Stéphane Écarnot, director of the CAUE du Jura. Discussions will focus on renovating existing buildings and the challenges involved. A convivial get-together will conclude the day.
