About this event in the Jura in Hauts de Bienne
From Morez to the global history of spectacles
At the Musée de la Lunette in Morez, in the municipality of Hauts de Bienne, guided tours explore the rich history of spectacles. They also cover the surprising history of Morez and the industrialisation of spectacle manufacturing.
Opened in 2003 in a contemporary building, this museum is unique in France. Located in the capital of French spectacle-making, it offers two visitor routes, one devoted to local history and the other to the global history of spectacles.
Two complementary routes
The first route traces the local history of metal-framed spectacles. This story begins in 1796 with the skill of a master nail-maker: it is the starting point for the account of spectacle manufacturing in Morez.
The second route explores the global history of spectacles through the collection of Pierre Marly, nicknamed the ‘couturier of spectacles’. This unique collection is presented along a playful, educational route. Temporary exhibitions also enrich the visit.
Tours for groups and individual visitors
The museum offers group tours throughout the year. For individual visitors, tours are organised every Thursday at 14:30 during school holidays, covering all school holiday zones.
In July and August, tours for individual visitors take place every Wednesday and Thursday at 14:00.
Announced dates
The dates listed for this event are 22/10, 29/10, 24/12 and 31/12.
