About this event in the Jura in Saint-Claude
The origins of Saint-Claude underground
At Musée de l’Abbaye, the guided tour of the archaeological basement explores the origins of Saint-Claude. This preserved space contains ancient masonry and monastic foundations, bearing witness to several centuries of religious and urban activity.
The tour uses these remains to explain the site's different architectural phases. It also traces past ways of life and explains the abbey's central role in the town's development. The history of the buildings and that of the town are thus explored during a single visit.
