In Tavaux, First Light brings together a choir and nyckelharpas for traditional songs, from Ireland to the shores of the Black Sea.
About this event in the Jura in Tavaux
Voices and nyckelharpas
In Tavaux, First Light brings choral voices and nyckelharpas into dialogue through traditional music. Taking the form of a journey « From Ireland to the shores of the Black Sea », the concert invites you to explore a Europe of traditions, bringing music from Ireland, Spain, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Lebanon and elsewhere back to life.
These songs are seen as a memory that endures beneath the surface of time. Shaped by peoples, landscapes and centuries, they form layers through which light passes. The programme thus juxtaposes the endurance of songs and their return through voices and instruments.
Singing as winter approaches
Presented on the threshold of winter, as the days grow shorter, First Light focuses on that moment when the first glimmer of light crosses the landscape. The songs open up a crack of light: they evoke waiting, hope and paths travelled.
They also tell of what continues to connect human beings from one generation to the next, long before Christmas songs ring out. This passing on of heritage, carried by musical traditions, runs throughout the concert.
The arrival of winter is therefore the thread running through this programme: the days shorten and the songs, as they have done for centuries, accompany this transition. First Light celebrates this moment suspended between the fading of the days and the appearance of light.
