About this event in the Jura in Poligny

The farming world in its own words

At Chapelle de la Congrégation in Poligny, Compagnie Adoc presents ‘Feeding Humanity Is a Profession’. Suitable for ages 14 and over, this theatre performance lasts 1 hour 15 minutes and is followed by 30 minutes of discussion.

This theatrical adventure began with field research. In 2011, an actor who is himself a farmer’s son decided to create a show based on encounters with dozens of male and female farmers in Belgium and France. ‘Feeding Humanity Is a Profession’ emerged from this process.

Back on the road, ten years later

Ten years after this initial research, the farming landscape has changed. Intensive or conventional farming is still present, but more and more people are choosing to return to the land and produce food differently. To stay as close as possible to this reality, the company takes to the road again for a new series of encounters.

These accounts give rise to ‘Feeding Humanity – Act II’. The new play interweaves them into a poignant mosaic, at times funny and deeply moving. It explores bankruptcies and loneliness, but also farm takeovers and changes of career.

Since 2025, the company has been presenting an expanded and updated version of the show. This development comes against a backdrop of farmers’ protests. The 1 hour 15 minute performance is followed by a 30-minute discussion.
