From 8 July to 31 October 2026, the Hôtel-Dieu in Dole hosts an exhibition on local pioneers of photography.
About this event in the Jura in Dole
The beginnings of photography in Dole
As part of the celebrations marking the bicentenary of photography, the town of Dole is celebrating its visual past. The exhibition of Dole photographers returns to the origins of this mechanical art by exploring the people who practised it locally.
The exhibition traces a development: from the first travelling photographers to the permanent establishment of the town’s first studios and workshops. Through this local history, the heritage exhibition pays tribute to the pioneers of photography who captured everyday life in Franche-Comté.
An exhibition in the Hôtel-Dieu gallery
The exhibition can be seen from 8 July to 31 October 2026 in the gallery of the Hôtel-Dieu, rue Bauzonnet, in Dole. This setting combines the discovery of the building’s architecture with that of the local history of photography.
To extend your visit, the introductory text suggests a stroll along the Doubs and a visit to other exhibitions in the Dole area.
