About this event in the Jura in Saint-Laurent-en-Grandvaux
Cabaret, on stage and at the table
On Saturday 30 January 2027 from 7pm, La Sittelle in Saint-Laurent-en-Grandvaux hosts a cabaret evening organised by the Centre Culturel in partnership with the Résonance association. Students and teachers from the Centre Culturel will bring together music, theatre, visual arts and the culinary arts.
Cabaret is both the chosen format and the theme of the evening. The entire Centre Culturel team and the members of Résonance hope to capture its joyful, friendly and festive atmosphere: a little, a lot, or madly so? A meal accompanies this event, which brings together several forms of artistic expression.
From singing cafés to artistic cabarets
This evening draws on a history whose account begins with the French Revolution. It was then that the café-concert, initially called the “café-chantant”, appeared in Paris. People went to watch a singing performance, and admission included a drink. Over time, these venues helped break down social barriers: workers and the bourgeoisie mingled there.
At the end of the 19th century, cabarets offering artistic performances opened their doors. People drank, ate and watched a kind of revue led by a master of ceremonies. These performances had nothing in common with the rigid conventions of classical theatre.
Among the most renowned Parisian venues at the time were Le Chat noir, the Cabaret des Quat’z’Arts, the Bal Tabarin and La Lune rousse. The Roaring Twenties then saw a resurgence of Parisian cabarets; Le Bœuf sur le toit remains one of the most famous.
Some of these cabarets have stood the test of time and seen a whole generation of singers, comedians and actors emerge. It is this world that the Centre Culturel and Résonance evening evokes, in both form and content.
