About this event in the Jura in Dole
From Caravaggio’s works to his European legacy
At the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dole, the Art History Encounter entitled ‘Shadow and Light: Caravaggio and Caravaggism’ takes the form of a lecture devoted to the artist and his legacy.
Caravaggio is explored with all the nuance of the portrait outlined: an artist of unprecedented creativity, but also a tormented artist whose legacy in art history is considerable.
The lecture will first revisit some of the works that brought him success. It will then discuss his legacy and the influence he exerted on European art.
A lecture by Sandrine Champion
The talk is given by Sandrine Champion, chief heritage curator and head of the collections promotion and exhibitions department at the Dijon museums directorate.
